Aroha Stone
Aroha Stone

Aroha Stones are a type of piemontite schist only found in New Zealand’s South Island. They seem to have a quartz-muscovite-piemontite composition, while some reports mention that they may contain garnet. Amphiboles of colourless to pale green are occasionally found. Aroha Stone have a beautiful pale pink color and they are naturally polished by water.

Chemical analysis provides a composition that can then be compared with other metamorphic, hydrothermal, or metasomatic piemontites. However, no identical piemontite is found anywhere else in the world. The mica in their composition gives them a characteristic shimmering aspect.

“Aroha” means “love” in Maori language.

Aroha Stones are said to be meant to be gifted, not bought.
